Gemini AI Now Supports Broadcasts on Google Nest Devices

Google has started rolling out a new feature that allows Gemini AI to broadcast messages through Google Home devices. This upgrade brings a major boost to Gemini’s integration with the Google Home platform, as Google prepares to phase out Google Assistant from Android devices later this year.

Previously, the Broadcast feature was only available via Google Assistant. It allowed users to send messages from one device to multiple Nest speakers or smart displays, functioning like a home-wide intercom. Now, the same functionality is being handed over to Gemini.

A Google community manager confirmed the update through the official support page. With this new rollout, users can ask Gemini to broadcast messages across their connected smart home devices. These messages can be text or voice-based and can be sent to a single device, a specific room, or all devices in the home.

To use the feature, users need the Gemini mobile app on their phone or tablet. When a user asks Gemini to broadcast a message like “Broadcast I’m on my way home” or “Broadcast to the living room, it’s time for homework,” the AI will send the message to the selected Google Home devices. If Gemini is not already linked to Google Home, the app will prompt users to enable the necessary extension.

This update, however, comes with some conditions. All devices must be connected to the same Wi-Fi network, except for the smartphone being used to send the message. The devices should also be signed into the same Google account or be part of a shared Google Family group. Additionally, only official Google Nest speakers and smart displays are supported, with no compatibility for third-party hardware. The broadcasts are also one-way, meaning replies are not possible.
