Gautam Adani says new Visakhapatnam data centre will boost India’s growth on many fronts

Gautam Adani has highlighted the wide ranging benefits India will gain from the upcoming data centre project in Visakhapatnam. Sharing his views in a public column, he wrote that the twenty-first century depends on new resources such as clean energy, data and computers, and that control over these resources is essential for economic strength and technological self-reliance.

Adani Enterprises has partnered with a global technology company through its joint venture Adani ConneX to build a major data centre campus in Visakhapatnam. According to a company statement, this will become the technology company’s largest data centre outside the United States. The partners plan a multi billion dollar investment of about fifteen billion dollars to create a new AI hub on the east coast of India.

Adani wrote that the campus will operate on gigawatt scale capacity and run entirely on renewable energy. He said that the facility will stand among the most advanced and sustainable data centres in the world. Through this investment, the Adani Group is also supporting the Government of India’s India AI Mission, which aims to build strong compute and data capabilities and encourage decentralised artificial intelligence.

He added that Visakhapatnam’s location on the eastern coast makes it an ideal digital gateway that can connect Asia and Africa. The project is expected to help decentralise India’s digital infrastructure by reducing dependence on traditional coastal metro hubs. The joint venture will develop both the physical and digital backbone for this new ecosystem, while Adani Green Energy will supply one hundred percent green energy to the facility.

According to Adani, the new data centre will strengthen data privacy and allow India to retain more value from the digital economy. He believes that the project will contribute to national technological advancement while supporting sustainable growth.
