Free browser tool helps ChatGPT users fix slow and lagging conversations

Many regular ChatGPT users face a common frustration. During long sessions, the chat window often becomes slow, making typing, scrolling and generating responses feel delayed. When this happens, users are forced to start a new chat, which disrupts the workflow and removes the context built over time. The issue is not caused by ChatGPT itself. It is usually linked to the browser.

The ChatGPT interface stores every message from every chat in the browser. As conversations accumulate, the browser ends up managing a very large history of messages. Rendering thousands of messages requires significant RAM and CPU power, which leads to lag. Clearing browsing data or using the dedicated ChatGPT app can help temporarily, but these are not long term fixes.

A free Chrome extension called ChatGPT LightSession now offers a better solution. The tool hides older and invisible messages from the browser view. This reduces the amount of data the browser has to load, which makes the chat respond faster. The extension does not delete any part of the conversation from ChatGPT. The full context remains available, and users can still refer back to earlier messages.

According to the developer, ChatGPT LightSession works entirely on the user’s device. The data “doesn’t go to any external servers” and the developer does not “collect analytics or telemetry.” Even so, users should always review permissions carefully before installing any browser extension because such tools can read or modify web content.

For anyone who deals with slow and lagging ChatGPT responses during work or personal projects, this extension can help improve speed, save time and make conversations smoother.
