Foxconn to invest ₹15,000 crore in Tamil Nadu for EV battery and tech units

Taiwanese electronics giant Foxconn will invest ₹15,000 crore in various manufacturing projects in Tamil Nadu, likely including electric vehicle battery production and advanced technology manufacturing, potentially creating around 14,000 new jobs, the state’s industries minister T R B Rajaa announced on Monday.

A Foxconn delegation led by Robert Wu, the company’s India representative and senior global executive, met Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin in Chennai to discuss the expansion plans. The state government also revealed the creation of a dedicated ‘Foxconn Desk’ within Guidance Tamil Nadu, marking the first such desk set up specifically for a company.

Wu expressed confidence in Tamil Nadu’s industrial policies, skilled workforce, and infrastructure readiness. The state industries department said the investments are part of Foxconn’s next phase of growth in India, focused on value-added, R&D-driven manufacturing with automation at its core.

Foxconn already employs around 41,000 people in Tamil Nadu, where it manufactures Apple iPhones and key components such as enclosures and display modules. The company is also expanding operations in Karnataka and constructing a new manufacturing complex in Jewar, Uttar Pradesh.

The planned investment in Tamil Nadu is expected to further strengthen the state’s position as a hub for advanced manufacturing and EV technology, aligning with India’s broader push for electric mobility and high-tech industrial development.
