Foxconn to increase AirPods production in Hyderabad to support growing demand

Foxconn will double the monthly production of new AirPods at its facility in Hyderabad. Foxconn is the primary manufacturing partner of Apple. This move is expected to support Apple’s plans to expand production outside China.

The Hyderabad plant currently has a target of 100000 units each month. According to a report from a common news source, Foxconn will upgrade five existing production lines to build new AirPods models. This will increase the target to 200000 units a month.

The workforce at the facility will also grow. It will rise from about 2000 employees to around 5000 as part of this expansion.

The report states that some of the new machinery will come from Foxconn facilities in Vietnam. Foxconn is investing 48 billion in total. This amount includes 30 billion that has already been invested.

Apple has been working on a wider plan to diversify production locations. The company wants to reduce dependence on manufacturing in China. Production of the Apple Vision Pro was recently moved to Vietnam.

The increased output from India will supply customers in India, the United States, and Europe. Electronics made in India are currently exempt from tariffs in the United States. Apple already produces most iPhones for the US market in India.

Apple has also been expanding its operations inside the United States. In August, the company said it would invest 600 billion over the next four years. Apple also announced the American Manufacturing Program. Under this plan, all cover glass for iPhone and Apple Watch will be made in the United States. Apple has shifted most US production to India, Vietnam, Malaysia, and Thailand for several product categories.

The decision to expand AirPods production in Hyderabad shows Apple’s growing trust in India’s manufacturing capabilities. It also strengthens Foxconn’s role as a key partner in Apple’s global production strategy.
