Fourlis Group Ransomware Attack: $22.8M in Losses But No Data Breach
Fourlis Group, which runs IKEA stores in Greece, Bulgaria, Romania, and Cyprus, suffered a loss of $22.8 million in sales due to a ransomware attack that occurred just two days before Black Friday. This incident disrupted both in-store and online operations from December to February.
The majority of the financial impact on the retail group, which also oversees Foot Locker, Holland & Barrett, and Intersport in Greece and the Balkans, was felt in December. Fourlis Group CEO Dimitris Valachis stated that the company did not pay the ransom demanded by the attackers, and investigations confirmed that no data was compromised during the incident.
“The temporary unavailability of some data affected by the incident was restored almost immediately, while the technical report (forensic) did not prove the leakage of personal data,” said Fourlis Group in a statement.
