Former ISRO Chief calls on students to leverage emerging technologies for India’s future

Highlighting the power of science and innovation, former ISRO Chairman and Padma Shri awardee A.S. Kiran Kumar urged students to harness emerging technologies and develop skills that will position them as future leaders of India.

Speaking at the National Science Day celebrations organised by the School of Advanced Sciences (SAS) at VIT-A.P. University, he said that embracing science and innovation is essential to achieving the vision of Viksit Bharat by 2047. He encouraged students to dedicate themselves to scientific pursuits and help India shine globally through talent and determination.

Emeritus Professor Prasanta K. Panigrahi from the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, Kolkata, said National Science Day inspires students to question, experiment, and explore ideas that address real-world challenges. He added that the day also honours the contributions of Indian scientists who have shaped the nation’s progress.

Former DRDO scientist Rao Tatavarti noted that the occasion promotes curiosity and scientific temper among youth. He stressed that students must actively engage in science and innovation to help India become self-reliant and globally competitive, especially in space, technology, and research.

Rajkumar Elagiri Ramalingam, AI Governance leader from Mphasis, Bengaluru, highlighted the growing importance of scientific thinking in industry. “Students must combine technological expertise with ethical responsibility and problem-solving abilities to drive sustainable growth and innovation,” he said.

VIT-A.P. University Vice Chancellor P. Arulmozhivarman stated that the institution encourages students to question ideas, experiment, and convert concepts into meaningful solutions that benefit society.

Students from 30 schools across Guntur and Vijayawada took part in the celebrations. Winners of various competitions were awarded prizes during the event.

University Registrar Jagadish Mudiganti, Dean of SAS S. Srinivas, Head of the Department of Chemistry Ramakanth Illa, National Science Day convener Manmadha Rao Banki, Student Welfare Deputy Director Khadeer Pasha, Head of the Department of Physics Nagarjune Neella, and others were present.
