Flora Unveils AI Platform with Enhanced Creative Controls

Flora is a new startup founded by Weber Wong, an alumnus of the NYU ITP art and technology graduate program. The company aims to consolidate various creative platforms into a single resource for creative professionals.

The company’s manifesto states, “We’re a team of creatives who founded Flora to solve our own problem: the lack of creative control in AI.”

It has received funding from notable investors, including A16Z Games, Menlo Ventures, Long Journey Ventures, and angel investors from Pika, Stability.ai, Midjourney, among others.

The founder states that the current platforms are built by “non-creatives for other non-creatives users to feel creative.”

Wong explained, “Flora has the best AI models and three types of blocks, text, image, and video. Connect blocks together to have creative control over the generative process, more so than just typing into a prompt box.”

The platform facilitates real-time project sharing and collaboration.

While Wong mentioned that it is easy to build creative workflows, you can also find pre-made workflows from the community that you can use. The company has worked with design agencies like Pentagram during its alpha stage to populate the workflows.

In a conversation with Media, Wong expressed his belief that the models themselves are not inherently creative tools. Instead, Flora positions itself as an “infinite canvas,” providing a visual interface for generating and connecting various elements using those models. He stressed that the focus should be on the interface rather than the underlying technology.

Wong also expressed a desire to attract skeptics of AI to explore Flora.

The platform is available for free, though it has limitations on project numbers and generation history, with subscription plans starting at $16 per month.
