Flipkart acquires majority stake in Minivet AI to strengthen GenAI capabilities

Flipkart has announced the acquisition of a majority stake in Minivet AI, an artificial intelligence and machine learning solutions provider. The strategic acquisition is aimed at strengthening Flipkart’s core Generative AI capabilities. The company did not disclose financial details of the transaction, including the value of the deal or the size of the stake acquired.

The move is part of Flipkart’s long term plan to build strong GenAI capabilities as the e commerce sector shifts rapidly toward visual, conversational, and AI driven discovery. Flipkart said the acquisition will help accelerate its transition to a more intuitive and immersive shopping experience across its platforms. The company also highlighted that Minivet AI’s platform uses advanced model orchestration and deep performance optimisation to deliver high quality outputs at lower costs compared to traditional production methods.

Founded in 2024, Minivet AI focuses on generative video solutions designed specifically for e commerce. Its technology enables the conversion of static product catalogues into engaging video content at scale. This capability is expected to support Flipkart’s move toward more interactive and immersive shopping journeys. In addition to video generation, Minivet AI offers other AI tools that support online retail platforms, positioning it as a full stack AI partner for e commerce.

The acquisition aligns with Flipkart’s broader strategy of investing in advanced technologies to improve customer experience and drive innovation across its marketplace. Ravi Iyer, Senior Vice President Corporate at Flipkart, said the acquisition will strengthen the company’s core GenAI capabilities by bringing in specialised talent and proprietary technology. He added that these capabilities are critical to addressing the industry shift toward visual first and video first commerce, which is key to improving customer engagement and conversion rates.

Aditya Rachakonda, founder of Bengaluru based Minivet AI, said the partnership with Flipkart is a pivotal moment for the company. He noted that it will help accelerate the deployment of Minivet AI’s proprietary GenAI solutions at scale on India’s leading e commerce platform.

The acquisition comes 2 months after Flipkart acquired a majority stake in digital content platform Pinkvilla, as part of its strategy to engage more deeply with younger shoppers.
