FIR Filed Against Hyundai, Shah Rukh Khan, And Deepika Padukone Over Alleged Defective SUV

A lawyer from Rajasthan has filed a police complaint against Hyundai along with its celebrity brand ambassadors Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone, accusing them of misleading consumers and endangering lives by promoting a vehicle that allegedly had serious defects.

The complaint was lodged by advocate Kirti Singh, 50, at the Mathura Gate police station in Bharatpur. Singh claimed he purchased a Hyundai Alcazar SUV, 2022 model, from a Sonipat dealership for ₹23.97 lakh. Soon after the purchase, the vehicle reportedly began showing major technical problems such as excessive engine vibration, sudden loss of power during acceleration or overtaking, and recurring system error messages.

Singh alleged that despite multiple complaints, neither Hyundai nor the dealership provided a permanent solution. Instead, he was informed that the issue was a “manufacturing defect” which could not be fixed permanently. Temporary adjustments made by mechanics reportedly failed to stop the recurring malfunctions.

According to the FIR, Singh accused Hyundai and the dealership of hiding the car’s defects at the time of sale. He also held brand ambassadors Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone responsible, claiming their endorsement influenced his decision to purchase the SUV.

The case has been registered under charges of cheating, criminal breach of trust, and conspiracy. Singh said the ordeal left him financially strained as he continues to repay the car loan, while repeated malfunctions put his family at risk on the road.

“When I reported the defects, I was told by dealers that Hyundai already knew about the problem but still sold the car,” Singh alleged in his statement.

Legal experts suggest the case could raise questions about the accountability of celebrities who endorse automobiles and whether they can be held liable for defects in the products they promote. Singh argued that both the company and its ambassadors misled buyers by presenting the Alcazar as a dependable vehicle despite alleged flaws. “This has put my life and my family’s life in jeopardy several times,” he said.

The matter is expected to draw wider attention as it combines corporate responsibility with the influence of high-profile celebrity endorsements.
