Figure AI Unveils In-House Battery for Humanoid Robot With 5-Hour Runtime

Figure AI, the California-based robotics company known for developing general-purpose humanoid robots, has unveiled a custom-built battery pack for its flagship robot, Figure 01 (F03), significantly enhancing its operational capability.

The new in-house battery gives the F03 humanoid a runtime of five hours, marking a major leap in energy efficiency and autonomy for human-like robots designed to operate in real-world environments.

In a company statement, Figure AI noted, “Designing our own battery pack in-house gives us tighter control over energy density, form factor, and system integration.” The custom pack is a 970 Wh battery designed with 108 cells in a 12s9p configuration, weighing approximately 7.3 kg.

The battery’s design supports swappability and scalability, allowing for longer continuous operation and quick maintenance in industrial settings. The move reflects Figure AI’s emphasis on vertical integration, from mechanics and AI to power systems.

The company aims to deploy these humanoids in sectors such as manufacturing, logistics, and retail. The 5-hour runtime is seen as a crucial step toward achieving human-level performance and autonomy in physically demanding tasks.

The F03 robot is already being tested in real-world environments, and the in-house battery could play a key role in accelerating its commercial viability.

With this development, Figure AI joins a growing list of robotics companies investing in proprietary hardware to optimize performance, signaling the next phase of evolution in humanoid robotics.
