Fake customers cheat delivery company of ₹23.70 lakh in Bareilly mobile exchange scam

A major fraud case linked to online mobile deliveries has surfaced in Bareilly. According to police, a group posing as customers cheated a delivery company by exchanging counterfeit mobile units and keeping the original devices, causing losses of ₹23.70 lakh. Investigators also found that all names and addresses used by the accused were fake.

The fraud came to light after an internal investigation by the company. The hub in-charge, Khark Singh, said that the inquiry revealed a suspicious pattern. Every fraudulent delivery listed the same address at Delapeer Chowraha. During the period, 8 Samsung Galaxy 25 model phones were delivered and exchanged in the Delapeer Damru Chowraha area.

Company records show the fraud occurred between December 8 and 10, resulting in a total loss of ₹23.70 lakh. Following the findings, the Izzatnagar Police registered a case against Pawan Chouksey and other unidentified accomplices.

Sources said the method used in this case was different from typical customer fraud. The accused reportedly formed a gang of fake customers and deceived delivery personnel by handing over counterfeit mobile units during the exchange process while keeping the original phones. Through this method, the company and its staff were systematically cheated of more than ₹23 lakh.

Khark Singh, a resident of Bageshwar district in Uttarakhand, works as the hub in-charge for Instracart Services Private Limited. He currently lives in Kailashpuram, Delapeer, Izzatnagar, and his office is located on Stadium Road in Bareilly. He explained that the company manages deliveries for multiple e-commerce platforms, mainly Flipkart, and follows strict mobile exchange policies.

Under the exchange policy, customers must hand over their old phones when receiving a new device. Delivery staff are responsible for inspecting the returned phone before completing the exchange. Police believe the accused exploited this process by handing over counterfeit assembled units instead of genuine devices.

Investigators also noted that repeated deliveries at the same location in the Delapeer area raised suspicion. Preliminary findings indicate that the operation was professional and well coordinated, using fake identities and exploiting company procedures.

Police said the investigation is ongoing and efforts are underway to identify and arrest the accused and their accomplices. Authorities have also urged the public to report any suspicious activity or irregular transactions immediately.

Experts say the case highlights the importance of strict verification during online deliveries and mobile exchange processes to prevent financial losses for companies and employees.
