Facebook brings back job listings in the U.S.

Three years after removing its job listings feature, Facebook is reintroducing it in the U.S., focusing on entry-level, trade, and service sector opportunities.

The feature is available to all users aged 18 and older and can be accessed via a tab in the Marketplace section, as well as in Groups and Pages. Users can filter and sort jobs by category, distance, and type. Facebook will also provide tailored job recommendations based on browsing history. Once applications are submitted, candidates can communicate with employers through Messenger to arrange interviews.

Facebook first launched job listings in 2017 in the U.S. and Canada, expanding to over 40 countries by 2018. The feature was gradually scaled back to just the U.S. and Canada in 2022 and discontinued entirely in 2023, likely due to LinkedIn’s growing dominance in professional networking.

Meta has not explicitly explained why the feature is returning now. However, the move aligns with CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s January comments about a “return to OG Facebook,” aiming to expand the platform beyond social networking. The reintroduction could also appeal to younger users, particularly Gen Z, who are entering the workforce.

By focusing on entry-level, trade, and service roles, Facebook differentiates itself from LinkedIn, which primarily caters to medium- and high-skilled positions. With over 3 billion monthly active users, Facebook has a wider reach than LinkedIn, which has surpassed 1 billion users.

The relaunch of job listings signals Facebook’s effort to reconnect with its roots while providing practical tools for users to find local employment opportunities.
