Ericsson Launches First India-Made Antenna

Swedish telecom company Ericsson has launched its first antenna model manufactured in India, marking a key milestone in building a complete local antenna ecosystem. The antennas are being produced at its facility in Manesar, Haryana, and will be used for both domestic deployment and international exports, which are set to begin in July.

This development comes after Ericsson set up an antenna manufacturing unit in India in April. At the time, the company announced its plan to localise 100 percent of passive antenna production for the Indian market. Until now, the company’s manufacturing operations were based in Mexico, Romania, and China.

With this move, Ericsson is also strengthening its local capabilities across sourcing, production, and engineering. It stated that over 50 percent of the antenna components are now sourced and produced locally in India.

“We are committed to building an end-to-end antenna ecosystem in India — one that includes local sourcing, production, and engineering,” said Mikael Eriksson, head of Ericsson Antenna System. “This is a long-term investment in capability, talent, and technology,” he added.

Eriksson noted that passive antennas play a crucial role in advancing 5G networks globally. Having a local manufacturing base will allow the company to quickly adapt to India’s evolving telecom needs.

Ericsson confirmed that the antennas produced in India will meet its global standards in both quality and performance, making them suitable for both local and international operators.

“Ericsson’s advanced ‘Made in India’ antennas will cater to both domestic and global demand,” said Nitin Bansal, managing director of Ericsson India.

Since 2015, Ericsson has supplied the Ericsson Radio System to support 5G network development in India and has demonstrated various 5G use cases in the country, including a live 5G-enabled music concert.
