ENGIE has ushered in a new era for its Australia and New Zealand operations with the appointment of Shannon Hyde as the Chief Executive Officer. Hyde takes the reins from Rik De Buyserie, who will be transitioning to the role of Country Manager for ENGIE North Africa.
With a distinguished 15-year tenure at ENGIE, Hyde’s journey within the company is marked by significant milestones, including his role as the youngest-ever CEO of ENGIE ANZ’s retail subsidiary, Simply Energy, which later rebranded to ENGIE. Before becoming CEO, he also served as Managing Director of the company. Hyde’s wealth of experience across various operational roles is set to guide ENGIE ANZ into its next chapter.
In addition to the CEO transition, ENGIE ANZ is witnessing several key leadership changes. Graeme York, the long-serving Chief Operating Officer for Generation, will retire in May 2025 after over 30 years in the energy industry. York’s remarkable career, which began in Victoria’s Latrobe Valley, includes his tenure as CEO of Hazelwood Power Station and coal mine.
Frederik Baerts has been appointed as the new Managing Director of Generation. Baerts brings a wealth of experience from his previous role as President and CEO of Singapore’s Senoko Energy, where he led a 2.6GW power plant and retail operations.
Meanwhile, Anna Quillinan, the Chief Development Officer for Net Zero Energy Solutions, will be leaving after nearly six years of dedicated service. Quillinan’s leadership helped establish ENGIE as a frontrunner in the transition to clean energy, including overseeing the installation of over 200 electric vehicle fast-charging stations.
Hyde expressed his enthusiasm for his new role, stating, “I look forward to delivering our local strategy, continuing to grow the company and augmenting all the hard work we’ve done over the last few years in placing ourselves in the centre of Australia’s energy transition.”
Reflecting on the leadership changes, Hyde added, “My own path is a great example of the career opportunities which are supported at ENGIE,” and thanked Rik, Graeme, and Anna for their invaluable contributions in helping transform ENGIE ANZ into a leader in the pursuit of a net-zero energy future. He also welcomed Frederik Baerts and his family to Australia.
