A fresh step towards strengthening India’s aerospace manufacturing ecosystem is taking shape as Brazil’s aircraft maker looks to deepen its local footprint through material sourcing partnerships.
Embraer has partnered with Hindalco Industries to explore the production of aerospace-grade aluminium in India. The move aligns with the Make in India programme and follows Embraer’s recent collaboration with Adani Defence to establish an aircraft assembly line in the country.
Speaking about the company’s plans, Embraer executive Roberto Chaves said the focus is on identifying and developing local suppliers to support India’s growing aerospace sector. This includes capabilities ranging from aircraft parts manufacturing to software development. Hindalco, with its existing supply strength, is being evaluated as a potential domestic supplier of aerospace-grade aluminium.
The partnership is expected to support India’s broader goal of building a self-reliant aviation and defence manufacturing base. By sourcing critical materials locally, Embraer aims to reduce dependence on imports while helping create a stronger industrial ecosystem within the country.
India already operates 47 Embraer aircraft, including jets used by the Indian Air Force. Industry observers note that local production of aerospace materials could lead to more employment opportunities, improved supply chain resilience, and expanded prospects for Indian defence manufacturing.
If the collaboration progresses, it could also pave the way for higher levels of localisation across Embraer’s operations in India. This would further integrate Indian companies into global aerospace supply chains while supporting long-term growth in both civil aviation and defence segments.
