Eisai Pharma, a leading global pharmaceutical company focused on human health care (hhc), has revealed its intention to set up a new Global Capability Center (GCC) in Visakhapatnam. This strategic initiative is designed to greatly enhance the company’s digital transformation and innovation presence in India, promoting advanced solutions to transform healthcare delivery.
The announcement was made by Makoto Haketsu, the Global Chief Information Officer of Eisai Pharma, during his visit to GITAM Deemed to be University on Wednesday. Haketsu highlighted that the main goal of the new GCC is to speed up Eisai’s digital transformation efforts by bringing together outstanding digital talent. The center will concentrate on creating sophisticated solutions that redefine healthcare in response to changing needs, utilizing digital innovation to improve patient care and operational efficiency.
During his visit, Makoto Haketsu, along with his core technical team, participated in in-depth discussions with Visakhapatnam Member of Parliament and GITAM President M. Sribharat. The discussions focused on potential collaborations between academia and industry, especially in aligning digital healthcare projects with research and innovation. Haketsu praised GITAM’s strong academic framework and its vibrant interdisciplinary research atmosphere, showing keen interest in a long-term partnership to weave digital innovation into healthcare.
Eisai Pharma expressed gratitude for the significant support provided by the Government of Andhra Pradesh and the Visakhapatnam Special Economic Zone (VSEZ), highlighting the region’s increasing attractiveness as a center for technology and healthcare investments.
This new GCC will build on Eisai’s current operations in Visakhapatnam, where it has been running its “Eisai Knowledge Centre” since 2009. This facility already functions as a base for manufacturing and process research, integrating Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs) and formulation manufacturing.
The establishment of a dedicated GCC indicates a stronger commitment to utilizing India’s digital talent for global healthcare innovation.
Although the specific investment for the new Global Capability Center and the exact number of jobs to be generated were not revealed in the available details, this center is anticipated to greatly enhance Visakhapatnam’s emerging position as a vital hub for healthcare innovation and digital excellence.
