The Albanese Government is excited to announce Dr. Paul Grimes PSM as the new Chief Executive Officer of the Austrade (Australian Trade and Investment Commission), effective 3rd March 2025.
Austrade is pivotal in helping Australian businesses grow, expand into new international markets, attract investments, and promote Australia as a top destination for tourism and education. Dr. Grimes, with his extensive public service background, is set to bring valuable expertise to the role.
With a distinguished career in both state and federal government roles, Dr. Grimes has held several high-level positions, including Secretary of the NSW Department of Treasury, Secretary of the Federal Department of Agriculture, and Secretary of the Department of Sustainability, Environment, Population, and Communities.
Currently, Dr. Grimes serves as the Chair of the NSW Net Zero Commission and the National Archives of Australia Advisory Council, among other important roles. His deep knowledge of public policy and government operations will undoubtedly drive Austrade’s mission forward.
In recognition of his exceptional contributions, Dr. Grimes was awarded the Australian Public Service Medal in 2010 for his work in shaping the Australian Government’s response to the global financial crisis.
“I look forward to working closely with him to continue to support local businesses to expand, reach new markets and create more jobs in Australia,” said a government spokesperson.
The Albanese Government also expressed gratitude to former CEO Mr. Xavier Simonet for his outstanding leadership and service to Austrade. Special thanks were also given to Acting CEO Daniel Boyer for his effective leadership during the transition period.
This new leadership appointment comes at a crucial time as Austrade continues its work in supporting Australian businesses on the global stage, ensuring they remain competitive in an ever-changing world economy.
