Doosan Robotics has announced the opening of its new research and development facility dedicated to creating advanced intelligent robots and related software technologies. The company confirmed the development on Monday.
The new Doosan Robotics Innovation Center is located in Bundang, Gyeonggi Province, and covers about 2,000 square meters of space. The company said it is the largest facility of its kind in the region.
Nearly 40 per cent of Doosan Robotics’ employees will be based at the center, where they will focus on developing advanced robotic solutions. Their work will include humanoid robots and specialised artificial intelligence software for robotics.
The innovation center will act as the company’s primary research hub, handling everything from designing robot parts and software to conducting quality testing. For example, thousands of tests will be carried out to ensure the robot arms can move in every direction without errors. The company also plans to improve product durability by testing under extreme conditions such as high heat.
Doosan Robotics expects the new facility to accelerate the pace of its product and technology development. The company is particularly focusing on multiarm simultaneous control technology, which enables several robot arms to work together on detailed tasks with precision in large manufacturing sites. It is also developing collision avoidance technology that uses sensors to improve safety in workplaces.
As part of its strategy, Doosan Robotics has appointed Oh Chang-hun, former chief technology officer at Toss Securities, as its new executive vice president. He will lead the company’s efforts in AI and software development. Oh brings extensive experience in designing and managing platform architectures, having previously worked at major internet firms such as Naver and Toss.
“Doosan Robotics is executing our core initiatives so we can become an intelligent robot solutions provider,” said Kim Min-pyo, CEO of Doosan Robotics. “We will develop our AI technologies by utilizing our compiled industrial data and strong research manpower, and lead the era of physical AI with our strong expertise in developing intelligent robots.”
