Doosan Robotics accelerates its drive to become a leader in AI-powered robotics solutions

  • Acquires an 89.59% stake in US automation company ONExia

  • Strengthens its future growth engine with AI and humanoid technologies, top-tier talent, and a new R&D center

Doosan Robotics is stepping up its transformation to become a global provider of intelligent robotics solutions by driving a multi-faceted growth strategy based on international acquisitions, expert recruitment, and structural reorganization to lead the new era of Physical AI.

On July 28, Doosan Robotics’ board of directors approved the acquisition of an 89.59% stake in ONExia , a Pennsylvania-based robotics systems integrator and automation engineering company. The transaction, valued at approximately US$25.9 million (approximately KRW 35.6 billion) , was formalized through a share purchase agreement (SPA) and a capital increase.

Founded in 1984, ONExia offers end-to-end automation services, from system design and manufacturing to implementation. It has established a strong presence in industries such as manufacturing, logistics, and packaging, providing solutions that improve productivity and reduce operating costs. In recent years, the company has focused its efforts on developing its own collaborative systems, specifically designed for end-of-line (EOL) processes such as palletizing, case assembly, and packaging, which are in high demand in North America. As a result, ONExia has maintained average annual sales growth of nearly 30%.

Doosan Robotics views this acquisition as a key step in accelerating its global competitiveness in the intelligent robotics market. The transaction represents a strategic shift from a hardware-centric business model to an integrated platform based on AI- and software-driven robotic solutions .

In addition to its advanced engineering capabilities and experience developing industry-specific robotic systems, ONExia brings 25 years of accumulated automation data and project execution expertise. These assets will directly contribute to strengthening Doosan Robotics’ AI capabilities and solution development , especially in areas where data-driven intelligence is crucial.

In parallel with this acquisition, Doosan Robotics is intensifying its internal R&D investments. The company is in the final stages of recruiting specialized personnel in robotics research, artificial intelligence, software development, quality assurance, and corporate strategy. It is also undergoing a structural reorganization of its R&D division , focusing on AI, software, and humanoid technologies. A new R&D Innovation Center, which will provide an optimal development environment, is also scheduled for completion during the third quarter of this year.

Kevin (Minpyo) Kim , CEO of Doosan Robotics, said, “This acquisition represents an important milestone as we take concrete steps to strengthen our global presence, internalize AI technologies, and develop future-proof solutions. ONExia’s expertise and established position in the U.S. market will create powerful synergies.”

He added: ” To position ourselves as a global leader in intelligent robotics and spearhead the future of physical AI , we will remain committed to investing in R&D, strategic mergers and acquisitions, and talent acquisition.”
