Dolby Unveils Dolby Vision 2 with Hisense and CANAL+ as Early Partners

Dolby Laboratories has announced the launch of Dolby Vision 2, the next generation of its award-winning picture quality innovation. The announcement marks a major step forward in immersive entertainment, with Hisense becoming the first television brand to confirm that it will integrate Dolby Vision 2 into its premium range, including RGB MiniLED TVs. French media and entertainment company CANAL+ has also pledged its support for the new technology.

For more than a decade, Dolby Vision has set the standard for high dynamic range, offering premium picture quality across devices. Dolby Vision 2 builds on this legacy and is designed to address the growing demand for advanced television experiences. It forms a central part of Dolby’s mission to improve picture quality across entertainment platforms, from large screens to handheld devices.

“We have reached an inflection point where TV technology has dramatically changed while artists continue to demand even more innovative tools,” said John Couling, Senior Vice President, Entertainment at Dolby Laboratories. “Dolby Vision 2 redefines how we think of Dolby Vision to unleash the full capabilities of modern TVs while giving artists unprecedented opportunities to push their creative boundaries further than ever before.”

Next-Gen Dolby Image Engine

At the core of Dolby Vision 2 is a redesigned image engine that enhances how content is displayed. Combined with Dolby Vision’s wide content ecosystem, the new engine ensures movies, shows, live sports, and games look more vibrant and detailed. Dolby is also providing creators with improved tools to optimise content for Dolby Vision 2 displays.

Industry Adoption

Hisense will be the first brand to launch televisions with Dolby Vision 2, powered by MediaTek Pentonic 800 with MiraVision Pro PQ Engine, the first chip to support the new standard. Details of availability will be shared later.

“This represents exactly the kind of innovation Hisense customers expect from premium television experiences,” said Sonny Ming, GM of Hisense TV Product Marketing. “Dolby Vision 2 jointly with Hisense RGB MiniLED Technology, can not only deliver dramatically astonishing picture, but also increase the potential of TVs with ultra-wide colour and ultra-high brightness, which have not been possible until today.”

CANAL+ has also committed to supporting Dolby Vision 2 across its content lineup, including films, series, and live sports.

“This partnership with Dolby reflects CANAL+’s pioneering spirit of innovation. Our commitment to delivering an unparalleled viewing experience to our subscribers remains unwavering. With the launch of Dolby Vision 2 across movies, series, and live sports that experience reaches breathtaking new heights. Dolby has been a valued partner for many years, and we are proud to be the first media and entertainment group to announce the integration of this new experience for our audience,” said Stéphane Baumier, Chief Technology Officer of CANAL+.
