Online trading scam cheats doctor of ₹1.10 crore, probe underway

A serious case of cyber fraud has surfaced, where a doctor was allegedly cheated of ₹1.10 crore through an online trading scam. The Cyber Crime Police Station in Sector 17 has registered an FIR and started an investigation.

According to the complaint, Dr. Rakesh Prabhugaud Patil, a resident of Sector 38, began exploring stock market investments through social media in December 2025. In January 2026, he was added to a WhatsApp group where members encouraged him to invest, promising high returns.

The accused, including the group admin and other members, reportedly convinced him to transfer money into multiple accounts by showing attractive profit claims. The doctor made around 25 transactions, investing a total of ₹1.10 crore.

Initially, the platform displayed fake profits. However, when he tried to withdraw the funds, he was asked to deposit more money. Later, the fraudsters allegedly posed as officials from the RBI and Enforcement Directorate and demanded ₹10 lakh as a “security deposit.”

Suspicious of the demands, the doctor contacted other members of the group and realised they had also been cheated in a similar way. He then approached the police and filed a complaint.

Based on his statement, the police have registered a case and initiated further investigation into the matter.
