A major cyber fraud case has come to light in Saharanpur, where a doctor was cheated of ₹90.59 lakh by a gang operating from Lucknow. The accused allegedly posed as facilitators who could recover pending payments under the Ayushman Bharat scheme. During the probe, police recovered ₹7 lakh in cash and a luxury car bought using the stolen money. The gang had reportedly travelled across the country with the funds and a female accomplice. Following a court order, the recovered cash was returned to the doctor on Monday.
The case began after Dr. Prabhat Kumar Verma, a surgeon from Janakpuri, filed a complaint with the Cyber Crime Branch on November 11, 2024. Addressing the media, SP City Vyom Bindal said the accused gained the doctor’s trust by promising to clear pending dues related to treatments under the Ayushman Bharat scheme. Over time, they allegedly transferred ₹90.59 lakh into multiple bank accounts controlled by the gang.
During the investigation, cyber police froze ₹2.76 lakh in the accused’s accounts. Based on information provided by the main suspect, officials recovered ₹7 lakh in cash from his residence and seized a Skoda car from the female accomplice, which had been purchased using the fraud money. Earlier, police had arrested Ankit Jaiswal, Abhay Sharma and Vivek Sharma from Lucknow and sent them to jail. The recovered amount was later presented in court and returned to Dr. Verma as per judicial orders.
SP Vyom Bindal urged citizens to stay alert and verify any suspicious calls, links, or financial requests before making transactions. He warned that cybercriminals often use convincing stories to trap victims. Authorities highlighted that such frauds are becoming more advanced, especially by misusing government schemes and digital payment systems. The case underlines the rising threat of cybercrime and the need for stronger public awareness and careful financial practices.
