South Delhi Doctor Defrauded of Over Rs 6.69 Lakh, Accused Arrested in Rajasthan

A senior doctor at a South Delhi hospital has been duped of more than Rs 6.69 lakh in a cyber fraud case by a man posing as an Army Cantonment official.

According to officials, the accused contacted the doctor on August 30, introducing himself as an Army officer and offering to arrange medical consultations for 25 defence personnel at Rs 1,500 each. He persuaded the doctor to transfer Rs 6.69 lakh in four instalments from his and his wife’s bank accounts.

The accused was later identified as 33-year-old Jalaluddin, also known as Jallu, a resident of Alwar in Rajasthan. Investigations revealed that he has at least seven cases of cheating and forgery registered against him in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Rajasthan. Based on digital surveillance, he was tracked down to Khairthal in Alwar district and subsequently arrested.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Ankit Chauhan said, “The doctor from Apollo Hospital had received a call on August 30 from a man introducing himself as an Army official. He claimed to be arranging medical consultations for 25 Army personnel at Rs 1,500 each and persuaded the complainant to transfer Rs 6.69 lakh in four instalments from his and his wife’s bank accounts.”

To gain the doctor’s trust, Jalaluddin posed as an Army official and even made video calls using pre-recorded visuals of defence personnel. Once convinced, the doctor transferred the funds, which were diverted by the accused to repay his personal debts.

Investigators found that Rs 6 lakh of the defrauded money was used to repay a car loan, while Rs 70,000 was diverted to settle credit card dues. Police recovered a car purchased with the cheated money, three mobile phones, and Rs 70,000 frozen in a fixed deposit linked to credit card payments.

The recovered mobile phones were found to be connected with at least 26 other complaints registered on the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal.

“The team worked on all available aspects of the cases and through technical analysis of digital footprints and call records traced the accused to Alwar in Rajasthan. Immediately, a team was dispatched and through surveillance, the accused’s location was zeroed down at Khairthal, Alwar,” DCP Chauhan added.

Authorities have urged citizens to remain vigilant against such frauds, warning that scammers often use impersonation tactics and forged identities to target unsuspecting victims.
