Hyderabad-based space start-up Dhruva Space is preparing to launch its first commercial mission, LEAP-1, featuring payloads from two Australia-based companies. The mission will use Dhruva’s indigenously developed P-30 satellite platform, which was earlier qualified during ISRO’s POEM-3 mission in January 2024.
Set for lift-off in the third quarter of the current financial year, the LEAP-1 mission will be launched aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket. The payloads include Nexus-01, an AI system from Akula Tech, and OTR-2, a hyperspectral imaging system from Esper. Both will fly on Dhruva Space’s P-30 platform.
Dhruva Space described the launch as a major milestone in Indo-Australian space collaboration, with growing commercial ties also supported by the United States. The company sees this as a step towards expanding its global commercial footprint.
“Following a successful qualification of the P-30 onboard ISRO’s PSLV-C58, Dhruva Space is excited to take its indigenously developed P-30 satellite platform to the global market,” said Sanjay Nekkanti, CEO and co-founder of Dhruva Space.
LEAP-1, short for Launching Expeditions for Aspiring Payloads, is part of Dhruva Space’s hosted payload programme. The mission will also incorporate the start-up’s Ground Station-as-a-Service (GSaaS) and its proprietary Integrated Space Operations and Command Suite (ISOCS), enabling real-time mission control and payload data downlinking.
This mission highlights India’s growing role in commercial space innovation and reinforces Dhruva Space’s vision to provide end-to-end satellite solutions on a global stage.
