Delhi Police conducts major crackdown on cyber fraud under Operation CyHawk

The Delhi Police has rounded up more than four thousand four hundred suspects and has arrested or bound down eight hundred seventy seven of them during a forty eight hour crackdown on cyber fraud under Operation CyHawk. An official shared the update on Friday.

The operation was carried out in close coordination with the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre of the Union Home Ministry. It focused on cyber fraud networks, mule accounts, cash withdrawal agents and illegal call centres operating across the national capital.

Police said this marked a shift from reactive action to proactive disruption of cybercrime networks. A total of four thousand four hundred sixty seven people were questioned. Out of these, eight hundred seventy seven were arrested or bound down after police examined technical data, financial records and other evidence.

Another five hundred nine people received notices under the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita for suspected links with cyber fraud networks. Investigators have also identified financial links involving over one thousand crore rupees. These funds were allegedly moved through mule accounts connected to organised cyber groups operating from Delhi. The information was shared by Joint Commissioner of Police Rajneesh Gupta from the Intelligence Fusion and Strategic Operations unit.

Police said the two day crackdown led to the registration of three hundred sixty new cases. It also gave breakthroughs in one hundred sixty existing cybercrime cases. More than three thousand seven hundred complaints filed on the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal were linked to mule accounts and suspicious mobile numbers during the operation.

Several illegal call centres were also raided and shut down. These centres were involved in job fraud, investment scams, customer care impersonation and tech support scams. Police recovered digital devices such as mobile phones, laptops, hard drives and SIM cards. They also seized financial ledgers and other material. Further investigation is in progress.
