Delhi Police has arrested eight people linked to an interstate cybercrime network that was operating across Delhi NCR and several other parts of the country. Officials said the gang was involved in suspicious financial transactions worth around ₹15 crore.
An officer said the syndicate was being run remotely by operators based in China. “The syndicate was being remotely controlled by China based operators through social media channels, where banking credentials were shared and malicious K files used to bypass OTPs,” the official said.
The accused were allegedly running a complex system using mule bank accounts to move and hide money obtained through cyber fraud. During the raids, police recovered cash worth ₹4.70 lakh, 14 mobile phones, 20 SIM cards, and seven debit cards.
The case began after a woman from Tamil Nadu filed a complaint on the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal. She reported that ₹6,000 had been taken from her bank account in September last year. Police traced the beneficiary account to a private bank branch in east Delhi and found that it was a mule account operated by a resident of Ghaziabad.
Based on this, an FIR was registered at the Pandav Nagar police station. Further investigation revealed that the main accused and his associates were part of a larger organised cybercrime group. So far, police have identified at least 85 mule accounts across multiple banks and linked over 600 complaints on the national portal to this network.
A special team studied bank records, internet banking logs, and IP addresses. This led to the arrest of eight people from Delhi, Ghaziabad, Moradabad, Bareilly, Rampur, and Maharashtra.
Police said the accused helped open mule accounts and move stolen money, which was later converted into cryptocurrency, mainly USDT. The investigation is ongoing to identify more victims, follow the money trail, and trace the foreign handlers.
