Delhi police arrest 42 suspects in major cybercrime crackdown

The Delhi police have arrested forty two people in a large scale action against cybercrime across the Southwestern Delhi region. Officials said the operation targeted individuals involved in several interstate fraud networks that cheated victims of more than two hundred fifty four crore rupees.

The arrests were made during raids under Operation CyHawk. The two day operation resulted in more than eight hundred accused being detained for various cyber offences. Another five hundred nine people received notices in connection with ongoing cases. Rajesh Gupta, the Joint Commissioner of Police for Intelligence Fusion and Strategic Operations, shared details of the crackdown at a press conference.

Gupta explained that those held or served notices were linked to job scams, investment scams and work from home fraud. Several call centres involved in deceiving people were also raided. The newly arrested suspects are connected to twenty three registered FIRs and three hundred seventy seven complaints on the national cyber reporting platform.

During the raids, the police recovered three laptops, two computers, forty three mobile phones, seventeen passbooks, two cheque books, fourteen debit cards and cash worth about one hundred seventy eight thousand dollars. The crackdown also targeted criminals involved in ATM fraud, digital arrest scams, USDT laundering, digital marketing fraud and large mule account operations across Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana.

A technical review by the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Center flagged suspicious activity in four private bank accounts in Kishangarh. These accounts were linked to fraud cases in Kolkata and Mumbai. The investigation led to the arrest of two mule account suppliers, Asgard Ali and Ankit Singh.

Interrogation of the suspects helped the police trace the alleged mastermind, Ravi Kumar Singh. He was arrested after a week long chase across Noida, Delhi and Ghaziabad. Police said he ran fake call centres in Noida and Kotla Mubarakpur, using false job advertisements for private airlines to lure victims. He worked with another accused, Ravi Mishra, to move the fraud money.

The police also arrested three more suspects, Rajan Singh Negi, Kamlesh Pal and a twenty four year old woman, from a working call centre in Kotla Mubarakpur. Officers seized ten mobile phones, five smartphones, two laptops, a computer and a register containing details of their fraudulent activities.

In another case, police arrested Rajesh Kumar and three accomplices after discovering that his bank accounts were used to withdraw fraud proceeds in six complaints. Raids in Mandawali and Najafgarh led to the recovery of seventeen passbooks, eight debit cards, three mobile phones and more than one hundred seventy seven thousand dollars in cash.

The Delhi police also reported a case involving a current account opened under the name Dynamic Dreams. It was linked to two hundred forty four cybercrime complaints involving losses of more than one hundred eighty six crore rupees. One of the account holders was arrested during a raid in Nilothi. In a separate case, five bank accounts linked to Gayatri Kumari were connected to twenty three cybercrime complaints. She was arrested in Dabri Extension, and her questioning led to the arrest of Aman Bhardwaj, who was accused of converting illegal funds into USDT.
