Delhi residents will soon be able to apply for important documents such as birth and caste certificates through WhatsApp.
As part of the ‘Governance through WhatsApp’ initiative, the Delhi government has identified 50 departments that can provide services via the messaging app, making interactions faceless and more efficient for citizens.
The Information Technology Department is developing a bilingual chatbot in Hindi and English to help people apply for services and documents, upload necessary papers, and pay fees.
The WhatsApp services model will also include a dashboard that allows officials to monitor updates in real-time and manage departmental interactions with applicants, according to a senior government officer.
The official added that the government plans to work with a technology company to design and deploy the system, though no company has been named yet.
Currently, citizens can apply online for several services offered by these 50 departments. The new WhatsApp-based system will be powered by artificial intelligence.
Previously, the Information Technology Department had managed doorstep delivery of government services under the earlier administration in Delhi.
