Delhi Assembly Embraces a Tech-Infused Future While Preserving Its Glorious Past

In a graceful dance between heritage and innovation, the Delhi Assembly is set to receive a digital makeover. The Public Works Department (PWD) has rolled out a grand plan to enhance the assembly’s infrastructure — not just visually, but technologically, ushering in a modern era of governance with cutting-edge additions and upgrades.

According to officials, the PWD is undertaking a full-fledged upgrade of the Delhi Assembly’s IT setup. The upcoming transformation includes installing ultra-high-definition 4K cameras, state-of-the-art LED display screens, and under-table speaker systems — all designed to significantly improve the audio-visual experience during sessions.

To ensure uninterrupted performance and quick troubleshooting, a dedicated on-site team comprising an engineer, a technician, and a helper will be stationed within the premises. “The additional staff is as per requirement to maintain smooth operation of the public announcement system, LED TVs and integrated audio and video system. The staff deputed will also carry out inspections and record the health of all the systems. Tenders have been floated in this regard,” shared an official.

In parallel, the aesthetic charm of this iconic structure, historically known as the Old Secretariat, is being restored. The PWD has undertaken maintenance and deep cleaning of three beautiful fountains nestled inside the campus — the Computerised Musical Fountain, the Dandelion Fountain, and the Umbrella Fountain. These are scheduled to function daily from 10 am to 6 pm.

The cleaning contract involves meticulous nozzle checks, removal of blockages, high-pressure washing of the base and walls, and clearing of debris. This rejuvenation effort not only elevates the ambience of the premises but pays homage to the building’s rich legacy.

With a budget of ₹47 lakh allocated for both the tech upgrade and fountain restoration, the projects will span a full year of maintenance to ensure consistency and longevity.

In addition, the Delhi Assembly has entered into a tripartite agreement with the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs for the implementation of the National e-Vidhan Application, paving the way for a paperless legislative future.

Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta emphasized the vision behind the facelift. “Several initiatives are being taken to modernise the Vidhan Sabha building along with technical upgradation and overall upkeep,” he said. Reflecting on its deep historical roots, Gupta added that this very structure witnessed the meetings of independent India’s first Parliament and served as a solemn ground where freedom fighters were once tried.

He further stated his intention to soon meet Union Culture Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat to propose developing the Vidhan Sabha building as a protected heritage monument — a fitting tribute to its past as it steps into the future.
