The Defence Cyber Agency (DCA) today launched ‘Cyber Suraksha’, a comprehensive cybersecurity exercise. Organized under the aegis of the Integrated Defence Staff headquarters, this multi-phased initiative aims to enhance India’s cyber resilience against evolving threats.
The 12-day workshop, which commenced on Monday, June 16, and is set to conclude on June 27, 2025, involves over 100 participants. These include personnel from various national agencies and key stakeholders across the defence domains, underscoring a unified approach to national security in the digital realm.
“The exercise is designed to simulate real-world cyber threats, reinforce secure practices, and test the analytical and defensive cyber skills of participants in a high-paced, gamified environment,” stated the Ministry of Defence. This hands-on approach ensures that participants gain practical experience in identifying, responding to, and mitigating cyberattacks.
A significant component of ‘Cyber Suraksha’ is the Chief Information Security Officers (CISOs) conclave, which has been “dovetailed” into the main exercise. This conclave aims to integrate technical aspects with leadership roles, bringing together strategic decision-makers. It features talks by eminent speakers in the cybersecurity domain and will culminate in an immersive Table-Top Exercise. This segment is crucial for enhancing coordination and decision-making at senior levels in the face of complex cyber challenges.
The Ministry further emphasized the long-term vision behind such initiatives. “Combining structured learning with dynamic hands-on challenge environments will empower participants to act decisively in the face of cyber threats. Defence Cyber Agency plans to conduct such exercises on a regular basis to maintain a state of readiness and cultivate a security-first culture across all levels,” the Ministry added, highlighting a commitment to continuous improvement in India’s cyber defence posture.
The exercise comes at a time when the cyber domain has been identified as one of nine key areas for focused intervention by the defence ministry this year, underscoring its growing importance in modern warfare. The ‘Cyber Suraksha’ exercise is a critical step towards fortifying India’s digital ecosystem and ensuring its armed forces are prepared for future multi-domain challenges.
