Japanese air-conditioner manufacturer Daikin has established a global capability centre (GCC) in India in collaboration with EY to enhance skills in information technology, digital services, data management, finance, artificial intelligence, and related fields, according to a senior company official.
The facility will be situated in Gurgaon and will be called the Daikin Innovation and Services Hub. It is expected to employ nearly 700 staff members. The company aims to develop these capabilities in India, viewing it as an opportunity for growth rather than merely a cost-cutting measure. This facility is intended to pave the way for a larger GCC in the country for the group, as indicated in a corporate presentation.
“Success of this project will pave the way for more such centres in India. There is a shift in the mindset of the parent company which led to this opening of the GCC and also due to India’s talent pool. The Indian business will play a bigger role for the parent company,” the executive said.
India represents one of Daikin’s largest markets, with projected revenue of Rs 12,500 crore for 2024-25. The company is also positioning India as a global production center, exporting air-conditioners to regions such as Africa, South America, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Bhutan. Additionally, Daikin is establishing an export-oriented plant in Sri City.
Daikin has ventured into component manufacturing within the country, including the production of compressors. KJ Jawa, the managing director for India, is notably the only non-Japanese member on the board of the parent company in Japan.
