Cyberabad has recorded the highest number of cyber crime cases, followed by Hyderabad and Rachakonda

City with the most cybercrime cases is Cyberabad, which is followed by Hyderabad and Rachakonda.Rapid increase in cases and a shortage of cybercrime police stations have made it more difficult for cyber police to combat cybercrime.

The Cyberabad commissionerate intends to establish five more cybercrime police stations, one in each zone, to improve detection, prevention, and arrests in order to bolster its response. There is currently only one cybercrime police station in the commissionerate.

The commissionerate received 11,914 complaints last year alone, and the victims lost a total of around Rs 8 crore (Rs 7,93,19,92,128). According to police sources, the average number of cybercrime cases recorded each day is between 33 and 40, and the arrest and detection rate is still low at only 5%.

The existence of the IT corridor in the Cyberabad commissionerate, which is home to several software companies and global corporations, is a primary cause of the rise in cybercrimes.

Instances involving fraud sums over <50,000 are handled by the current Gachibowli cybercrime police station, while local law and order police handle instances under this limit. Consequently, the average incidence of arrest is around 5%, while the total recovery rate is around 30%.

Only 534 fraudsters were apprehended in 372 instances in 2024 as a result of the lack of cybercrime police stations, which decreased the rate of detection and apprehension.

According to cyber security expert Shankar Mohan, there is an insurmountable backlog of digital crime cases as a result of the one police station having to handle over 38 different forms of cyber fraud. In contrast to other criminal crimes, he underlined that cybercrime matters need to be handled right away since prompt action, known as the “golden minutes,” is essential for recovering money, stopping fraudulent transactions, and making arrests.

One cybercrime police station each zone, according to senior authorities, might enhance detection, arrests, and recovery rates—possibly raising the recovery rate to 40%.
