The cyber crimes wing of the Cyberabad police has arrested 13 people in a nationwide crackdown on cyber fraud between 17 and 23 September. The operation uncovered 10 cases spread across several states, with nine related to trading scams and others linked to digital arrest fraud, impersonation, and job or part-time job scams.
During the raids, authorities seized 13 mobile phones and 14 SIM cards from the accused. The police also secured 370 refund orders across 113 cases from the courts, ensuring ₹1.69 crore was returned to victims.
One of the most significant cases involved a victim who lost ₹51.65 lakh in an online trading scam. The individual was approached by a woman posing as a trading advisor on a chat platform, who later shifted conversations to Telegram and WhatsApp. The victim was persuaded to register on a fake trading website that displayed fabricated profits on a dashboard. He was repeatedly asked to pay income tax clearance, service charges, and VIP account upgrade fees before realising the fraud.
Investigators found that several people willingly provided their bank accounts, ATM cards, passbooks, and phone numbers to fraudsters in exchange for commissions. One of the bank accounts linked to the accused was tied to 31 different cases, while another was connected to 10 separate cases across the country.
Four suspects, identified as Kondapalli Suneel Kanth, Penchala Kishore Rachaputi, Rawal Bhupesh, and Kadiyam Raviteja, were arrested in connection with the trading scam. Police said efforts are underway to track down other accomplices.
Authorities have urged citizens to stay alert and avoid trusting unknown individuals on social media, Telegram, WhatsApp, or chat platforms who promise quick money. People have been advised not to share Aadhaar details, bank information, or personal documents with unverified persons. Suspicious activity can be reported by dialling 1930 or through www.cybercrime.gov.in.
