Authorities in the United Arab Emirates are cautioning residents about the growing spread of misleading digital material online. The UAE Cyber Security Council has called on the public to remain alert and avoid engaging with or sharing unverified information circulating on digital platforms.
In a statement released on Wednesday the Council warned that rumours and digitally manipulated content can pose a serious risk to national information security. Officials highlighted the rapid spread of online media and advised people to be careful when encountering videos or posts that may have been edited, altered or presented without full context.
The Council specifically warned against distributing clips that have been “fragmented or removed from their chronological context.” According to officials such content can distort facts, mislead viewers and contribute to the spread of false narratives. Authorities emphasised that residents should verify information before sharing it online to prevent the amplification of misleading material.
The government body also stressed that the UAE operates a centralised and transparent official media system. It said that all updates related to national security public services and official state announcements are released only through authorised government entities. “The redistribution of rumours exposes the community to digital misinformation risks and impacts information security,” the Council said. “Verify before you publish. The official source is the only reference.” Officials noted that the advisory is part of broader efforts to maintain a secure digital environment as online content and cross-border information flows continue to grow.
