Cyber frauds are increasingly impacting not only individuals but also companies. In a recent case, a small-cap firm involved in water supply and wastewater management projects has fallen victim to a major cybercrime incident.
Enviro Infra Engineers, which handles key infrastructure work such as sewage and drinking water treatment plants and industrial water reuse projects, reported that Rs 11,15,00,000 was fraudulently withdrawn from its bank account. The fraud occurred through impersonation of a company director and was reported on July 2, 2025.
In the latest update, firm confirmed the recovery of Rs 2,50,22,719 so far, with further recovery efforts in progress. The current net financial impact stands at Rs 8,64,77,281. The cyber crime authorities are actively investigating the matter.
Enviro Infra Engineers has responded by immediately strengthening its internal controls and bank transaction authorisation protocols. It has also increased awareness among employees about cyber threats and preventive steps.
In a notable move, the Executive Directors of the firm have voluntarily decided to forgo their salaries until the entire amount lost in the fraud is recovered. This step has been taken to ease the financial burden on the firm.
Despite this serious challenge, firm posted strong performance in Q4FY25, with a 31 per cent year-on-year growth in revenue and a 30 per cent rise in profit after tax. It also secured new EPC and O&M contracts worth over Rs 200 crore during the year.
Additionally, Enviro Infra Engineers is expanding into clean energy, with the formation of a new subsidiary focused on solar, hydropower, green hydrogen, and round-the-clock renewable energy solutions.
