Cyber Fraud in Coimbatore Costs Victims Rs 31 Lakh in Job Scams

The Cyber Security Department in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, has initiated a thorough investigation following two separate cyber fraud cases in Coimbatore, where victims lost a total of Rs 31 lakh.

Police reports indicate that Siva Kumar, a 40-year-old resident of Anbu Nagar in Edayar palayam, fell victim to scammers who lured him with a fraudulent managerial job offer in Japan. The con artists conducted an online interview and provided him with a counterfeit appointment letter. They then tricked him into paying Rs 22 lakh in several installments, claiming it was necessary to resolve visa processing issues.

When Kumar failed to receive the promised flight tickets, he reported the incident to the cybercrime police.

In a separate incident, Karthik (33), a bank worker from Saravanampatti, fell victim to a money-doubling cyber scam. He received a text message that promised substantial returns on his investment, ultimately resulting in a loss of Rs 9 lakh before he recognized it as a scam.

The cybercrime police have filed individual cases for both occurrences, and investigations are currently underway.
