A resident of Sector 36-C became a victim of cyber fraud, losing ₹36.76 lakh to scammers who impersonated law enforcement officials.
The cyber police reported that Balraj Singh, the complainant, received a call from an unknown person who claimed that a package in his name had been seized in Thailand, supposedly containing drugs. The scammer, pretending to be an official, pressured Singh into transferring ₹36,76,135 to clear his name from the alleged case.
Convinced of the legitimacy of the threat, Singh made several transactions before realizing he had been scammed. Once he recognized the fraud, he reported the incident to the Cyber Crime Police Station, leading to the filing of an FIR under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including Sections 319(2) for cheating by impersonation, 318(4) for cheating and dishonestly inducing property delivery, 338 for forgery of valuable security, 336(3) for forgery for cheating purposes, 340(2) for using a forged document or electronic record as genuine, and 61(2) for criminal conspiracy.
