In his new position, Riz will lead enterprise-wide HR strategy across CSX’s 21,000-mile transportation network. His responsibilities include talent management, leadership development, labour relations, organisational design, and workforce planning. The appointment underlines the company’s focus on operational excellence driven by a high-performing and engaged workforce.
Riz brings over 30 years of global HR leadership experience across transportation, private equity, manufacturing, energy, healthcare, and consumer sectors. Most recently, he served as Chief Talent Officer & Operating Partner at AEA Investors LP. There, he worked closely with portfolio company leadership teams to strengthen executive talent strategy, succession planning, and value creation across middle-market investments.
Earlier, he was Chief HR Officer at BNSF Railway, owned by Berkshire Hathaway. He led HR strategy for one of the largest railroad networks in North America. His work covered labour relations, workforce transformation, leadership capability, and organisational effectiveness in a highly operational environment.
Over the course of his career, Riz has also held senior HR leadership roles at Energy Future Holdings Corp, Kennametal Inc, Aetna International, and Mary Kay, Inc. He began his professional journey with PepsiCo and Hay Group, building a strong foundation in global HR strategy and advisory.
Beyond executive leadership, he has served on the boards of Window Nation, Blackmon Mooring & BMS CAT, and Jack’s Family Restaurants, LP. These roles have further strengthened his governance and strategic advisory expertise.
With deep experience leading HR in complex, asset-intensive, and multi-state operations, Riz Chand’s appointment supports CSX Corp’s continued focus on performance excellence through people-centred leadership.
