After a court intervened, a Dehradun resident has finally secured a police investigation into an alleged investment fraud that dates back nearly 10 years. The case centres on a proposed hotel and hostel project in Mussoorie that never materialised, despite claims that ₹2.02 crore was invested in the venture.
According to court records, Deepak Kumar, who lives in the Arjunwala and Kolhuket area near Mussoorie, was introduced to Gaurav Kiraad in 2014. Mr. Kiraad allegedly learned about Mr. Kumar’s finances and land assets before proposing a joint venture to develop a hotel and hostel in Mussoorie. The project was pitched as a shared investment with equal profit distribution. Over time, the proposal allegedly led to repeated demands for money, described as necessary for land purchase and development.
The complaint states that between 2023 and 2024, Mr. Kumar transferred more than ₹2.02 crore in several instalments. Instead of a single business account, the money was allegedly routed to multiple accounts, including those belonging to Mr. Kiraad’s wife, parents and a company linked to him. Income tax reasons were reportedly cited for this structure. Police say these transactions are now under scrutiny as part of an investigation registered under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, covering cheating, criminal conspiracy and related offences.
As the months passed, Mr. Kumar claimed there was no visible progress on the project. He alleged that the site was never shown and that requests for updates were repeatedly delayed. When he asked for his money to be returned, he claimed he was verbally abused and threatened with physical harm and false criminal cases. He first approached Mussoorie police regarding the threats and later filed a cheating complaint at Rajpur Police Station. With no action taken, he contacted senior police officials and finally sought court intervention.
Following a court order, Rajpur police registered an FIR. Station in charge Pradeep Rawat confirmed that four people have been named as accused, Gaurav Kiraad, his wife Tina Kiraad and his parents Suresh and Sunita. Police said the investigation is ongoing and no arrests have been made so far.
