The Congress party has raised questions about whether the Narendra Modi government will take action in response to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission’s (SEC) ongoing investigation into the Adani Group, particularly after the Prime Minister referred to the Adani matter as a “personal issue.”
The opposition’s remarks come after the SEC informed a New York court that its efforts to serve complaints against Gautam Adani and Sagar Adani over an alleged bribery scheme are still in progress. The SEC has also sought assistance from Indian authorities to move forward with the case.
Congress spokesperson Jairam Ramesh pointed out the government’s stance, asking whether Prime Minister Modi, who has previously called the issue personal, would cooperate with the SEC’s inquiry.
