Collins Aerospace, a subsidiary of RTX based in Charlotte, North Carolina, is working to bring its passenger processing software back online after a cyber intrusion disrupted airline operations across Europe.
The company confirmed that on 19 September its MUSE system, which manages passenger check-in, baggage processing and boarding services at several European airports, was hit by ransomware. The attack forced check-in systems offline and caused major disruptions for travellers.
Authorities said that a man has been arrested in connection with the incident as investigations continue. The disruption created significant delays, with airports struggling to recover normal services.
Berlin airport, one of the affected locations, reported that it was still facing challenges in restoring both check-in and baggage handling systems. Airport officials warned that passengers should expect more delays and possible cancellations as recovery work continues.
The attack on Collins Aerospace adds to a growing list of cyber incidents in Europe that have led to serious operational problems in recent months.
