Cognizant has announced a major step towards advancing enterprise AI by planning to deploy 1,000 context engineers within the next year. The move is aimed at industrialising agentic AI and marks what the company described as a pivotal investment in the emerging discipline of context engineering. Cognizant also revealed a strategic partnership with Workfabric AI, the creator of the ContextFabric platform.
According to Cognizant, context engineering is central to enabling AI agents to reason, act, and adapt in line with enterprise objectives. The ContextFabric platform acts as a continuous runtime grounding layer, converting workflows, data, rules, and processes into actionable context for AI systems. “In the microprocessor era, the lever was code. In the cloud era, it was workload migration. In the LLM era, the lever is context,” said Ravi Kumar S, CEO of Cognizant.
The partnership with Workfabric AI will provide engineers with the tools needed to move clients from limited experimentation into scalable AI adoption. Through training 1,000 context engineers, Cognizant aims to transform a company’s collective knowledge, including operating models, goals, policies, and governance systems, into actionable intelligence for enterprise AI.
Applauding the initiative, Rohan Murty, CEO of Workfabric AI, described it as a bold and forward-looking decision. “ContextFabric will be the force multiplier that turns this vision into reality, enabling engineers to deliver trusted, enterprise-grade outcomes.” He highlighted that enterprise deployments of the platform have already shown measurable results, such as three times higher accuracy, 70 per cent fewer hallucinations, quicker deployment cycles, and stronger returns on investment.
