Government’s Efforts to Prevent Cybercrime
The Chief Minister stressed that cybercrime is a modern crime made possible by the internet and mobile devices. Victims frequently become victims without realizing it as the means of perpetrating these crimes continue to change. The state police have responded by aggressively promoting awareness of cybercrime while collaborating closely with a range of stakeholders, including members of the media.
District headquarters, educational institutions, government offices, and public representatives have all received a recent advice asking them to spread awareness about the spread of offensive information on social media.
Youth are explicitly urged not to produce or distribute such content, and media outlets are urged not to broadcast or publish any offensive photographs or videos or reveal the identity of victims and their families.
Cybercrime Prevention Guidelines
The Central and State Governments have taken a number of actions to successfully combat cybercrime:
Initiatives of the Central Government:
1930 Cyber Helpline: A round-the-clock hotline for reporting problems, tracking down financial tracks, and stopping illegal money withdrawals.
The National Cybercrime Reporting Portal (NCRP) is a specialized online complaint portal for cybercrime.
State Government Initiatives:
1. Specialized Cyber Police Stations: In 14 districts, Cyber Crime and Economic Offense Police Stations have been set up, and more districts will soon follow.
2. Investigating authorities get crucial assistance from the Cyber Investigation Support Team (CIST).
3. Cyber Forensic Unit: Keeps an eye on the acquisition of state-of-the-art tools and software for cybercrime investigations.
4. Synergy: Works together with banks and the IT sector to spread knowledge and offer cyber security advice in public spaces and educational institutions.
5. Unit for Coordination and Monitoring (M&C): identifies fraud practices and creates plans to lessen cybercrime in collaboration with banks, TSPs, and ISPs.
The government of Odisha is dedicated to stopping cybercrime and making the internet a safer place for its people through these programs.
