Chinese Firm Unveils Walker S2: World’s First Humanoid Robot to Autonomously Change Its Battery

UBTECH Robotics, a leading Chinese robotics company, has unveiled a groundbreaking innovation in the field of humanoid robotics: Walker S2, touted as the world’s first autonomous humanoid robot capable of changing its own battery. This advancement addresses a significant challenge in robot autonomy and endurance.

Standing at 5 feet 3 inches tall and weighing approximately 95 pounds (43 kilograms), Walker S2 is designed for extended operation. It features a sophisticated dual-battery system utilizing 48-volt lithium batteries, allowing it to walk for up to two hours or remain standing for four hours on a single charge. When a recharge is needed, the robot can autonomously swap its batteries, with each full recharge taking around 90 minutes.

This self-sufficiency in power management marks a critical step towards more practical and continuous deployment of humanoid robots in various environments. Walker S2 is envisioned for use in settings such as factories, where it can perform tasks autonomously, and in public venues, where it can engage with customers.

“The ability for a humanoid robot to manage its own power source autonomously is a game-changer,” stated a representative from UBTECH Robotics. “Walker S2 represents a significant leap forward in making robots truly independent and capable of sustained operations without human intervention for recharging.”

The development of Walker S2 humanoid underscores the rapid progress in robotics, pushing the boundaries of what autonomous systems can achieve and paving the way for more integrated human-robot collaboration in industrial and service sectors.
