China’s Baidu launches AI-driven video generator

China’s Baidu unveiled an AI-powered video generator for businesses, along with a major update to its search engine on wednesday.

The new image-to-video model, named MuseSteamer, can generate videos up to 10 seconds long and is available in three versions: Turbo, Pro, and Lite.

Over the past year, major AI players like OpenAI, along with global tech companies, have been expanding their reach from chatbots to text-to-video and image-to-video generators. In China, companies like ByteDance, Tencent, and Alibaba have also introduced similar models.

While many competitors, such as OpenAI’s Sora, offer subscription-based services for consumers, Baidu’s MuseSteamer is designed exclusively for business users. There is no consumer version of the tool available yet.

Along with the new video generator, Baidu’s search engine has undergone a significant overhaul. The search box has been redesigned to handle longer queries and now supports voice and image-based searches. The updated platform also delivers more personalized content through the use of Baidu’s AI technology.

Baidu has been facing growing competition as AI-driven chatbots like ByteDance’s Doubao and Tencent’s Yuanbao gain popularity among users.
