China Unveils Humanoid Robot That Can Fist-Fight and Do Cartwheels

A Chinese tech company has introduced a humanoid robot that can throw punches, do handstands, and even perform advanced gymnastic moves like cartwheels and kip-ups. The robot, named R1, has been developed by Unitree Robotics and is priced at just over Rs 5 lakh or around 6,000 US dollars, making it one of the most affordable advanced humanoid robots in the world.

The R1 robot weighs around 55 pounds and is built with 26 joints that help it move smoothly and perform complex actions. It also comes equipped with advanced artificial intelligence features, including voice and image recognition. In a video that quickly went viral, the robot was seen performing combination punches and impressive gymnastic stunts, showing off its strength, flexibility, and balance.

One highlight was the robot executing a kip-up, a move where it jumps from lying on its back to a standing position without using its hands. This difficult action is rarely seen in robots, indicating how far robotic engineering has progressed.

The video has already received nearly three million views, with many viewers jokingly asking if the robot could help with daily household chores. One user wrote, “Will it fight anyone you point at? Asking for a friend,” while another asked, “Can it walk my dog and serve breakfast to my kids?”

Several users tagged Elon Musk and his Tesla Optimus team, asking if they were still developing their own humanoid robots while companies like Unitree were already showing real-world results. One comment said, “Yo @Tesla @Tesla_Optimus @elonmusk. You guys still trying compete? Hope you’re not still in the lab in few years while these guys are ramping and deploying next year?”

Alongside Tesla, other companies like Boston Dynamics have also made progress in building humanoid robots. However, if Unitree can deliver on its promise of a fully functioning humanoid at such a low cost, it could be a major breakthrough for China in the global robotics and AI industry.

Unitree already offers other advanced humanoid robots like the H1, which costs over Rs 77 lakh, and the G1, priced at Rs 13.8 lakh, which is popular among research institutions and schools.
