China Launches Online Complaint Portal to Monitor Automakers’ Supplier Payments

China’s industry ministry has introduced an online complaint platform aimed at monitoring automakers’ compliance with their promises to pay suppliers on time. The move comes amid growing concerns over delayed settlements, especially as the country’s auto sector faces pressure from an ongoing price war.

In June, several major Chinese automakers, including BYD, Chery, SAIC and Xiaomi, committed to paying their suppliers within 60 days. This pledge was part of a broader industry effort to ease tensions and stabilize the supply chain.

According to a statement from the ministry, the new online channel will allow affected parties to report issues related to delayed payments. The ministry will coordinate with relevant stakeholders to help resolve the complaints and improve accountability.

This step is part of a larger strategy to regulate financial settlements in the automobile industry. The ministry said it is focused on ensuring “the healthy and sustainable development of the automobile industry” through better oversight and online payment practices.

The online portal initiative reflects the government’s intention to support suppliers who have been struggling due to tightened cash flows, a result of aggressive pricing strategies adopted by automakers in the competitive Chinese market.
