ChatGPT Go now free in India for one year: OpenAI launches special offer for users

OpenAI has announced that its paid ChatGPT Go plan will be available free for all users in India for one full year, starting November 4. The limited-time offer coincides with the company’s DevDay Exchange event in Bengaluru, marking its first major developer conference in India.

The ChatGPT Go plan, introduced in August, was created as an affordable version of OpenAI’s premium subscription. It includes several advanced features such as higher message limits, daily image generation, file uploads, and extended memory capabilities — all powered by the company’s flagship GPT-5 model. The plan was previously priced at ₹399 per month in India.

In its announcement, OpenAI said the decision to make ChatGPT Go free was a way to appreciate Indian users’ growing engagement with its technology. “To celebrate OpenAI’s DevDay Exchange event in Bengaluru on November 4, its first in India, OpenAI is making ChatGPT Go available free for one full year to all users in India who sign up during a limited-time promotional period, starting November 4,” the company said.

India has become one of OpenAI’s fastest-growing markets, with paid subscriptions doubling within a month of the Go plan’s launch. The offer is part of OpenAI’s broader strategy to expand its presence in India, where the adoption of AI tools is rapidly increasing across businesses, education, and personal use.

Under this free access offer, ChatGPT Go users in India will enjoy:

  • Increased chat limits
  • More daily image generations
  • Larger file uploads
  • Extended memory for longer conversations

Existing ChatGPT Go subscribers will also receive an additional free year of access. However, users must sign up during the promotional window to activate the offer.

How to activate ChatGPT Go for free:

  • Visit the ChatGPT website or open the ChatGPT app.
  • Sign in using your existing OpenAI account.
  • Tap your profile icon and select “Upgrade your plan” (or go to Settings → Subscription).
  • Choose the ChatGPT Go option.
  • Follow the on-screen steps to activate the free plan.
  • Once activated, the Go plan will be automatically added to your account for 12 months at no cost.

India is now OpenAI’s second-largest market globally, and the move puts the company in direct competition with Perplexity AI and Google, both of which have recently introduced similar one-year free AI access programs in India.
