A new version of ChatGPT designed specifically for teachers is now available and free for verified U.S. K12 educators through June 2027. This dedicated workspace aims to support teachers in their daily tasks while giving school and district leaders strong security and administrative controls.
The company says teachers are among the earliest and most active users of AI tools. Many already rely on ChatGPT each week and report saving significant time that they can redirect toward working with students. ChatGPT for Teachers is built to help educators adapt classroom materials, collaborate with colleagues, and become more confident using AI.
The platform also gives school leaders the ability to bring staff into a single workspace with education grade privacy protections. It is designed to support compliance requirements and protect student data. To expand accessibility the service is being offered at no cost to verified educators until June 2027. Alongside this the company has released an AI Literacy Blueprint to guide schools and policymakers on responsible AI adoption.
This initiative builds on earlier work with educator groups and global education ministries. It also extends ongoing efforts to make ChatGPT more useful for both K12 and higher education environments.
ChatGPT for Teachers includes key features such as unlimited messages with GPT 5.1 Auto search image generation file uploads connectors and integrations with tools like Google Drive Microsoft 365 and Canva. The workspace allows teachers to personalize responses, save classroom context, and learn from examples shared by other educators. It also supports collaboration through custom GPTs shared projects and templates. School leaders can use admin tools like role based access controls domain claiming and SAML SSO.
Teachers and staff can get verified through a secure third party process to set up their workspace and invite colleagues. The free period lasts through June 2027 and pricing may change after that although the company plans to keep it affordable.
The announcement also highlights how teachers are already using the tool. They use it to plan multi week units generate varied writing samples or match standards to curriculum needs. A collection of shared prompts is available on the website.
The company is also working with a first group of districts across the U.S. representing nearly 150000 teachers and staff. These districts are helping shape the rollout by sharing real classroom needs and implementation feedback. Their input will guide how ChatGPT for Teachers develops over time.
